Not necessarily. As long as we have safe access, a gate code if required, and pets are restrained, we can deliver, exchange or fill bottles even if you’re not there.
If you have a Pensioner Concession Card, Health Care Card or Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card and meet the government’s criteria, yes you can. For more information search non-mains energy concession.
There are a few ways to check your gas cylinder level:
- Pour hot water down one side of the gas cylinder. Run your hand along the cylinder to feel for a temperature change. The point where it changes from hot to cold indicates the gas level.
- Weigh the gas cylinder and subtract the tare weight from the total weight.
- Check the gas cylinder gauge (if fitted). Call us when your gauge is down to about 20% to order your next delivery.

What you need:
- Soap and water mixture
- Sponge or cloth
- Spray bottle (optional)
Steps to check for gas leaks:
- Ensure proper ventilation: open windows and doors in the area.
- Mix equal parts of soap and water to create a soapy solution.
- Turn off appliances and pilot lights.
- Inspect all gas connections, pipes, fittings, valves and hoses for signs of wear or damage.
- Apply the soapy water to the connections with a spray bottle, sponge or cloth.
- Watch for bubbles. If bubbles form, it indicates a leak.
- If a leak is detected, turn off the main valve on top of your cylinder(s), ventilate the area, and contact David on 0418 524 219. If the leak does not stop, call emergency services on 000.

Liquified petroleum gas (LPG) can be used alongside or independent of electricity, and is the right alternative where natural gas is not available.
LPG cylinders must be placed in well-ventilated locations and on a solid base.
Tips for 45kg–210kg home LPG cylinders:
- Keep cylinders upright and stable, ideally on a solid concrete pad.
- Fix cylinders securely in position to prevent toppling.
- Keep away from ignition sources such as switches, pumps and lights.
- Ensure the space is well-ventilated, not enclosed or under a building.
- Avoid pits and drains, as LPG is heavier than air.
- Keep away from doors, windows and vents.
- Ensure easy access for delivery and compliance with Australian Standards.
Helpful information for LPG delivery:
- Driveway and access must be clear.
- Gates unlocked or gate codes supplied.
- Pets restrained.
Truck fill guidelines:
- Same as above for exchange cylinders.
- Driver must have line of sight to the truck.
- Cylinder must be in date. Mortimer Petroleum can arrange testing if needed.
- Installation must be within the reach of the tanker’s 35m hose.
Our drivers need safe vehicle access, with trees pruned to allow clearance for the height and width of the fuel and gas tankers.
No. There are no delivery or rental fees. You only pay for the fuel or gas you use.
